Breaking the Art Laws

Skyscrapers all of the same design. Identical businesses shoeboxed in next to each other. The same monotonous colour palette. People passing by with approved hairstyles and clothes.

I live in a society where art and creative culture are forbidden by law. Where 2+2=4 and everything objectively falls into line. Only a few of us know about the underground art world. We are the ones keeping art alive for future generations, so they don’t have to know the grey world we do. Even if they have to enjoy our creations in secret too.

We have a gathering space that constantly moves to avoid persecution. But too many people at once draws attention from the bland and hostile overlords of the world. Even some scientists have joined our underground community, as innovation and discovery were damned in the objective society. The scientists became our dealers of art supplies. In need of some paint? They know the formulas and chemical reactions to get what we need.

It’s difficult to hide our colours and stories and camera equipment, but it’s necessary for all of us who can’t function in a world without songs, dance and lively paintings. The greyness of the world is now one we want to live in.
