Criminal Alibi

‘What the fuck is this about? I haven’t seen you in months and now the police want to bring me in for questioning. Whatever you’ve done, I want no part of. Jesus, you are stupid!’

The line is silent for a moment. Sean is lost for words and letting me scream at him. I can’t even imagine what is going through his head and I wish he would fucking get to the point. The pause is infuriating me further.

‘Answer me you bastard! Explain yourself now!’

Sean takes and releases a slow deep breath. He is trying at least, I’ll give him credit for that.

‘I… Uh.. Missed hanging out with you. As dumb as it sounds. We used to be closer than ever and nothing could separate us. Life moved on. You did. I still wanted you apart of my life. You know how my creativity can sometimes get me in trouble, yeah this was one of those situations.’

I scrunch my face up as I try to understand what this idiot is saying. What does our estranged friendship have to do with the bank robbery this man has committed?

‘I continue to convince myself that we are together all the time still. Helps with the loneliness, if you know what that feels like. I’m sorry you are now an alibi for a crime you didn’t do. I didn’t know how to ask for help. I’ve been on the decline for a while now.’

Sean can now be heard sobbing over the phone and I am taken aback. I don’t know what words will help this mess.
